'Harry Potter' star Daniel Radcliffe shares how parenthood changed his daily routine
The actor says fatherhood has reshaped his mornings and inspired him to quit smoking
Daniel Radcliffe has embraced fatherhood with open arms—and early mornings.
The 36-year-old actor, best known for his role as Harry Potter, became a first-time dad in 2023 with partner Erin Darke.
In a candid interview with The Wall Street Journal, Radcliffe shared how life has changed since welcoming his son, whose name has not been publicly revealed.
“I have a small child, so my body has trained to wake up at about 5:30,” Radcliffe explained.
“My son has a night-light where you can program it to turn a different color at a certain time, so at 6:30 it will flick from blue to yellow and I will hear him scream: ‘It’s yellow, come get me!’”
The actor admitted that fatherhood has inspired practical changes in his life, including quitting smoking and adopting a new morning routine.
“Warm gloves for walks to school and silicon toppers for baby food pouches—these are parenting essentials that I feel more people should know about,” he said with a laugh.
Radcliffe also revealed his love for capturing memories of his son. “The first year after our son was born, I was looking through my phone at all the pictures I have of him and I was like, ‘Oh, man, it just makes me sad that these are all just on my phone,’” he said.
"Erin has since taken on the mission of printing hundreds of photos, ensuring Radcliffe has tangible keepsakes. “I’ve divided the photos into two piles, which are ‘amazing photos’ and ‘life-changing photos.’ That box of photos of him would be my prized possession.”
Despite his own career in the spotlight, Radcliffe hopes his son will steer clear of acting and fame. “I honestly wouldn’t want my son to act or to become famous,” he admitted.
