‘Game of Thrones’ movie in development at Warner Bros. with ‘Andor’ writer Beau Willimon
'Game of Thrones' franchise remains one of the Warner Bros.' most valuable properties
A feature film based on the world of Game of Thrones is reportedly in development at Warner Bros., signaling a potential expansion of the epic fantasy franchise onto the big screen.
The project is said to be written by Beau Willimon, known for his work on Andor and as the showrunner of House of Cards.
According to reports, Willimon has already completed a draft of the screenplay. However, no director has been attached, and casting decisions have yet to be announced.
The film’s future may depend on corporate developments, as Warner Bros. is in the process of merging with Paramount Skydance.
If the deal moves forward, new leadership could reevaluate projects currently in development.
Still, the Game of Thrones franchise remains one of the studio’s most valuable properties.
Paramount Skydance CEO David Ellison has previously expressed ambitions to expand theatrical releases, which could work in the film’s favour.
While official plot details have not been revealed, the story is rumoured to center on Aegon I Targaryen and his conquest of Westeros.
The legendary ruler laid the foundation for the Targaryen dynasty centuries before the events of the original series.
The Targaryen lineage famously includes Daenerys Targaryen, portrayed by Emilia Clarke.
The family’s history has already inspired HBO spinoffs such as House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
Based on the novels by George R. R. Martin and produced by HBO, the franchise continues to expand its legacy beyond television.
