A 21-year-old Indiana man has been arrested following a fatal shooting that claimed the life of his wife and left their newborn baby with serious injuries. Cameron E.

Tomlinson initially told emergency services that his wife, Jessica M. Tomlinson, had suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound at their Kokomo home on 24 February.

However, police grew suspicious after discovering that the couple’s one-month-old infant, who was being held by Jessica at the time, had also suffered "significant trauma" from a gunshot wound to the hand.

During police interviews, Tomlinson’s story began to unravel. He first claimed his wife had grabbed a revolver because she felt it "went well with his outfit" for a night out.

He alleged the weapon discharged while she was holding it by the barrel. Under further questioning, he admitted to reaching for the gun himself.

The 21-year-old eventually confessed that as he tried to pull the revolver away, it fired, striking both his wife and child. “To sum it up, that means I shot her,” he reportedly told detectives.

Jessica Tomlinson was pronounced dead at the scene, while the infant was rushed to a specialist children's hospital in Indianapolis. Cameron Tomlinson now faces charges of reckless homicide and criminal recklessness.

He is currently held in Howard County Jail on a $15,000 bond, with a judge explicitly ordering him to have no contact with his child. A pretrial conference is scheduled for 20 May as the community grapples with the tragic loss.
