Health experts in India are increasingly highlighting the role of nutrition in managing metabolic and hormonal disorders, with a particular focus on a traditional superfood.

Nutritionist and wellness creator Khushi Chhabra recently shared the extensive benefits of black nigella seeds, commonly known as kalonji, suggesting they can be a powerful ally against thyroid issues, diabetes, and hair loss.

Reverses thyroid and improves immunity

The efficacy of these seeds is attributed to a bioactive compound called thymoquinone. In a social media address on 3 March, Chhabra described the compound as "pure magic for your metabolism and immunity."

She explained that these tiny seeds are rich in thymoquinone, which "naturally boosts and regulates the functioning of the thyroid glands."

Often referred to as the "seed of life," kalonji is believed to strengthen the immune system through its potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

Reverses diabetes and supports hair health

Beyond hormonal balance, the superfood is touted for its ability to aid weight loss and manage blood sugar levels. According to Chhabra, "the active component, thymoquinone, reduces appetite and improves fat metabolism."

Furthermore, the seeds are said to nourish hair roots and improve scalp health from within, offering a holistic remedy for those suffering from thinning hair.

For those looking to adopt this habit, the nutritionist recommends consuming half a teaspoon of kalonji powder in warm water on an empty stomach, urging followers: “Don’t sleep on this simple habit!” While these natural aids show promise, patients are reminded that they should complement, not replace, professional medical supervision.
