Rockstar Games purges Grand Theft Auto VI data after PlayStation Store leak
Rockstar Games has deleted leaked title IDs from the PlayStation Store backend
Rockstar Games has acted swiftly to remove leaked data from the PlayStation Store following a breach that sent the gaming community into a frenzy.
The incident began when a prominent dataminer, known as PlayStationSize, identified two specific title IDs—PPSA01547_00 and PPSA29660_00—within the store’s backend tracking system. These identifiers are widely believed to be linked to the highly anticipated release of Grand Theft Auto VI.
The discovery sparked intense speculation amongst fans, with many suggesting the dual IDs pointed towards separate standard and deluxe versions of the title.
Others theorised that the update signalled the imminent arrival of digital pre-orders. However, industry developers have since downplayed the likelihood of multiple versions being prepared this early.
The leak took a more personal turn when a small number of players discovered an exploit allowing them to add the unreleased game to their public PlayStation profiles.
This gave the false impression that they had already gained access to the title. Shortly after the news gained traction, leaker @yAmethxst confirmed that Rockstar had purged the IDs from the system.
Consequently, those who had successfully "added" the game to their collections found the entries deleted from their accounts.
While Rockstar has not issued an official statement, the removal is viewed as a strategic move to prevent further exploitation of backend data.
Fortunately for the players involved, no punitive action was taken against the accounts that utilised the glitch.
The episode serves as a reminder of the unprecedented level of scrutiny surrounding what is arguably the decade's most-awaited entertainment launch.
