Melissa Fumero joins Matthew Gray Gubler in CBS's 'Einstein' series
CBS has cast Melissa Fumero as the female lead in its new original series, 'Einstein'
CBS has selected its female star for the new series Einstein. Melissa Fumero (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) will take the lead alongside the previously announced Matthew Gray Gubler, who is set to portray Albert Einstein’s great-grandson.
This show is included in CBS’ 2026-2027 lineup and is set to begin filming this month.
Fumero will portray Teri, a Detective Inspector with the New Jersey State Police. Smart and meticulous, Teri sets high expectations for her team and herself and struggles with partnering alongside Professor Einstein.
Rosa Salazar was first chosen for the role. Einstein centres on Lewis Einstein (Gubler), the exceptionally smart yet aimless great-grandson of Albert Einstein.
He spends his time as a tenured professor until his rebellious behaviour gets him into legal trouble, compelling him to assist a local detective (Fumero) in solving complex crimes.
Lewis is quite popular at Princeton … when he makes it to class. Quirky and misguided, the weight of his brilliance and renowned surname burden him, but using his abilities to crack murder cases might — finally — give his life some much-needed focus and meaning.
Andy Breckman, Randy Zisk, Michael Rauch, Tariq Jalil, Rose Hughes, Rodrigo Herrera Ibarguengoytia, and Laura Beetz are executive producers for Einstein. Gubler also contributes as a producer. CBS Studios is responsible for production.
Fumero, a SAG nominee, is celebrated for her role as Detective Amy Santiago in Fox/NBC’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Recently, she portrayed Birdie, a posh new gardener entangled in a murder puzzle in NBC’s Gross Pointe Garden Society.
Her career kicked off with a recurring part as Adriana Cramer on ABC’s One Life to Live and she appeared in beyond 200 episodes.
Other TV credits encompass Netflix’s Blockbuster, NBC’s Good Girls, Netflix’s One Day at a Time, and ABC’s The Mentalist.
She is set to headline in the forthcoming thriller Red Dirt, a narrative of family vengeance presently in pre-production that sees two brothers reconciling after long years apart due to their family’s murder. Fumero is represented by UTA and Corner Booth Entertainment.
