Ozzy Osbourne planned to cut his iconic hair before his death, Jack reveals
The rocker performed his final Black Sabbath gig weeks before passing
Rock legend Ozzy Osbourne had reportedly planned a dramatic makeover shortly before his death, according to his son, Jack Osbourne.
The Black Sabbath icon intended to cut off his signature long locks to mark his retirement from music, reflecting that he was “not a rock star any more.”
Speaking on Jamie Kennedy’s Hate to Break It to Ya podcast, Jack recalled a private moment with his father: “Right before I left, I was putting him to bed… he was brushing his teeth and looking at himself in the mirror and he goes: ‘I think I'm going to cut my hair off.’ And I’m like, ‘Why?’ and he’s like, ‘I've retired. I'm not a rock star any more.’”
Jack explained that Ozzy had only once cut his hair short in the past—to annoy his wife Sharon Osbourne in 1984—and had never done it again.
This final haircut, he said, would have been a symbolic gesture of closing a legendary chapter in rock history.
Ozzy passed away from cardiac arrest, with Parkinson’s disease, diagnosed in 2003, listed as a contributing factor.
The rocker had performed his final Black Sabbath gig in Birmingham, England, just weeks before his death, signaling the end of his storied career.
At the 2026 BRIT Awards, Sharon and daughter Kelly Osbourne, 41, accepted a Lifetime Achievement award on Ozzy’s behalf.
Sharon reflected on his humor and humility, saying, “He hated to make speeches.
He hated listening to speeches… He may not be here, but he left us one amazing body of work that will never be forgotten by the country that made him.”
