A young girl is recovering in stable condition at Perth Children’s Hospital after suffering serious facial injuries in a dog attack outside her family home.
The incident occurred around 3:40 p.m. local time on Wednesday, March 4, in a suburb of Perth, Western Australia, as the child, under 10 years old, was playing with friends.
According to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) and 9 News, a neighbor’s dog attacked her in the street, prompting emergency responders to rush to the scene.
She was transported to Perth Children’s Hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries. ABC reports that she remains in stable condition.
Authorities from the City of Joondalup, where the attack occurred, released a statement saying they “take all dog attack reports seriously and are investigating the incident as a matter of priority.”
Mayor Daniel Kingston confirmed the dog has been impounded to ensure the safety of local residents and the community.
Officials have urged anyone who witnessed the attack to contact city rangers.
The community continues to monitor the girl’s recovery, and authorities are conducting a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack.
