Milla Jovovich shares secrets to a strong marriage with Paul W.S. Anderson
The couple has built a partnership that blends both family life and filmmaking
Milla Jovovich is sharing the secrets behind her enduring marriage to filmmaker Paul W.S. Anderson.
The couple first met on the set of their 2002 horror film Resident Evil and married in 2009. Now in their 17th year together, they share three daughters—Ever, 18; Dashiel, 15; and Osian, 6.
Jovovich, 50, and Anderson, 61, have built a partnership that blends both personal and professional collaboration.
“I think part of what’s kept our relationship so close and so alive is the fact that we share so much in common, but at the same time, we’re not both actors and we’re not both writers and we’re not both directors,” Jovovich told People while discussing her new action film Protector.
“We both have talent in the same field, but in different areas, so there’s not that weird competition.”
The couple has continued to work closely together over the years, producing films while leaning on trusted crew members.
Jovovich said of their collaborations: “It was really like a family affair… We help each other a lot in that sense. I learned so much from Paul. With me, I’m so much into character and dialogue. We help each other make the best movies we can.”
Jovovich marked her 16th wedding anniversary last August with heartfelt Instagram photos of the family, calling Anderson “the rock we can be grounded on when we’re lost and the gentle sea that pushes and guides us towards beautiful shores.”
As the Resident Evil franchise enters a new chapter with a reboot by director Zach Cregger, Jovovich remains supportive of the fresh take. “Resident Evil is literally what my family is built on… I hope for the best. It’s going to be really fun to see his take on it,” she said.
Protector is now in theaters.
