The final season of the historical epic Outlander premiered on 6 March, promising to resolve the seismic cliffhanger that left fans reeling at the end of the previous series.

Stars Caitríona Balfe and Sam Heughan have hinted that the concluding chapter will offer "answers" regarding the shock revelation that their daughter, Faith, survived childbirth.

The introduction of 14-year-old actress Florrie May Wilkinson as Fanny, Faith’s daughter, is set to be a focal point. Balfe noted: “It was really amazing to see the familial bonds strengthen.”

As the narrative returns to a thriving Fraser’s Ridge, the protagonists find that the American Revolutionary War has followed them home.

The couple must now decide what they are willing to sacrifice to protect their settlement and stay together. Transitioning away from the roles they have inhabited since 2014 has proved emotional for the lead duo.

Heughan, 45, admitted to being apprehensive about the series finale, stating: “I don't think you could ever be satisfied.”

With author Diana Gabaldon still writing the tenth and final book, A Blessing for a Warrior Going Out, the television adaptation has increasingly diverged from its source material.

Showrunner Matt Roberts has reportedly kept specific plot details guarded to manage the high expectations of the cast and global fanbase.

Heughan explained that they returned for this final outing to provide a conclusion that "tied up some things" for dedicated viewers.

New episodes are currently airing every Friday on Starz, marking the beginning of the end for one of television's most beloved romantic sagas.
