Harry Styles nails complex BRIT Awards routine without backup
The 'Watermelon Sugar' singer refused a stunt double for his Aperture choreography
Harry Styles is proving he’s more than just a singer. The 32-year-old pop star took full ownership of his intense dance sequences in the promo for his latest single, Aperture, refusing to use a stunt double even for a tricky lift.
Choreographer Ryan Heffington, who worked with Styles on the routine, told The Sunday Times that the singer insisted on performing every move himself.
“He watched it happen and said, ‘No, I’m going to do it,’ so he did. That dance I came up with is really hard and really fast … I didn’t know Harry’s capabilities with that genre of movement but he just walked in and said, ‘Let’s go,’” Heffington said.
Heffington, who was introduced to Styles through creative director Molly Hawkins, praised the singer for his determination and fearlessness.
“What I like about Harry is that he’s not fearful. He’s not cemented into being one genre of person … He never wanted a break, he just wanted to learn it and do the best he could,” Heffington said.
Despite his past “dad dancing” reputation during his One Direction days, Styles impressed everyone with his performance at the BRIT Awards.
Heffington revealed that he had only two days to rehearse with Styles before the show, but the singer had already studied the steps from a video sent to him a week prior.
“He really studied it and learnt the routine super fast, despite having little to no dance background. I just did some fine tuning and cleaned it up a little bit,” Heffington said.
