Steve Carell celebrates 30 years of marriage with wife Nancy
Steve Carell says his wife Nancy, is the smartest and funniest person he knows
Steve Carell has shared a rare glimpse into his private life, describing his three-decade marriage to wife Nancy as the cornerstone of his happiness.
Speaking with L'Officiel to promote his new HBO comedy Rooster, the 63-year-old actor emphasised that he views acting as a profession rather than a lifestyle.
Now that their children, Annie and Johnny, have left home, the couple is embracing life as "empty nesters," prioritising travel and domestic simplicity over Hollywood's social circuit.
The pair first met at Chicago’s Second City comedy troupe before marrying in 1995. Reflecting on their enduring bond, Carell noted that they often read scripts together and frequently finish each other’s sentences.
"She’s just a super-talented and smart person," he remarked, before jokingly adding: "And, you know, she’s a babe." Despite his global fame, Carell maintains a grounded existence, admitting he finds genuine excitement in mundane tasks.
"I actually just went one step further and bought a leaf vacuum that straps over my back, and I love it," he confessed.
Carell attributes his balanced perspective to his relatively late start in the industry, which allowed him to provide his children with a normal upbringing.
Most of the couple's social circle consists of fellow parents rather than industry figures. Although he plays an author in his latest series, Carell has no immediate plans to write a book.
He suggested he might only take up the pen when his wife eventually insists: "You have to do something. We’re just staring at each other now."
