A UK-based nutritionist has issued a stark warning regarding the health implications of wearable technology, specifically targeting the ubiquitous Apple Watch.

Zib Atkins, a health optimisation expert, contends that the normalised 24/7 skin contact with these devices may expose users to a "toxic load" of radiation and synthetic chemicals.

In a recent statement, Atkins challenged the assumption of inherent safety, noting: "Most people don't even question the safety of their watch because it's become so normalised."

The concern over radiation and chemicals

Atkins highlighted the constant emission of radiofrequency (RF) signals directly into body tissue. He noted that while regulatory limits exist, they may not account for devices that never leave the wrist.

"But that device is sending out radiofrequency (RF) signals directly into your tissue for hours on end," he explained.

Beyond radiation, Atkins cited research indicating that premium "fluoroelastomer" bands often contain PFAS, known as "forever chemicals", which can accumulate in the body.

A strategy for harm reduction

Rather than advocating for a total ban, Atkins suggests a "harm reduction" approach to regain control over long-term health.

The 'natural' swap: Replace synthetic straps with natural materials like organic leather, stainless steel, or hemp.

Scheduled breaks: Remove the device during the workday or while relaxing at home.

The night shift: Stop wearing the watch to bed.

Atkins insists his goal is awareness rather than panic, stating: "The Apple Watch is a powerful tool, but we need to stop treating it like it’s a natural part of our bodies."
