The family engaged in the unfortunate car incident that claimed the life of their baby in Gates, New York, has been named.

According to authorities, their SUV was hit by a black SUV.

The family comprises Jake Carpenter, his wife Kelly Carpenter, and their infant Noah, who did not survive his injuries, Democrat & Chronicle reports, referencing Gates Police Chief Rob Long.

The accident took place on March 5 at around 10:15am in the morning local time, as per information from the Gates Police Department in a press release.

"The Gates Police Department responded to the Buffalo Road and Howard Road junction for a reported multi-car collision. Information from dispatch indicated that individuals might be trapped in the involved vehicles," police noted.

Upon arrival, officers found it was a "two-car collision with individuals trapped." Gates Fire and Gates Ambulance services aided the victims.

"Gates Fire successfully extricated individuals from the two heavily damaged vehicles," stated the police.

"Initial findings show the driver of a black SUV rear-ended a white SUV halted at the eastbound Buffalo Road light, right at Howard Road," continued the Gates police. "The white SUV had three occupants: a driver, a front-seat passenger, and a 6-month-old in a safety seat."

Every member of the Carpenter family was taken to the hospital right away due to their injuries.

"Sadly, the infant did not survive the injuries and was declared deceased at Strong Memorial Hospital," police mentioned, adding that Jake and Kelly remain in "critical condition."

"Kelly has incurred a severe brain injury requiring urgent surgery," according to the GoFundMe organised by Laura McGlynn for their family. "Jake suffered an aorta injury and also had an emergency operation. Jake is anticipated to recover fully, though Kelly's condition is critical."
