Oppo's latest foldable: Nearly crease-free design
Oppo states that the Find N6's crease will remain less noticeable over time
When people pick up a foldable phone I'm showing them, the first thing they often do is search for the line in the screen. With Oppo's Find N6, that might take a bit longer.
Oppo asserts that the Find N6, debuting officially next week on March 17th, boasts the world's pioneering "zero-feel crease" foldable screen. Let's clear one thing up: "zero" is a bit of an exaggeration.
Though you can detect the crease, it's barely noticeable, and only if you're looking for it. You can see it as well, but only under the right lighting conditions and angles, and even then you might need to really try.
This is the most unobtrusive crease I've seen on any foldable phone so far—so minor that I doubt it would bother anyone.
The innovative technique Oppo used to minimise the crease is fascinating: 3D liquid printing.
According to the company, creases are mostly due to surface height inconsistencies on the hinge below, so they tackled this by eliminating those irregularities.
A laser maps the hinge to find the uneven areas, where a photosensitive polymer is applied and then cured using UV light. This step is repeated over 20 times, resulting in surface variations averaging just 0.05mm—finer than a strand of hair.
Oppo also states that the Find N6's crease will remain less noticeable over time. They've reinforced this with a slightly thicker foldable glass, which better resists bending and retains its shape more effectively.
This is tough for me to quantify after a short duration with the phone, but the company showed me a model they claimed had been flexed 200,000 times without any noticeable difference from my pristine review unit.
With the phone's official debut still a week away, Oppo is being reserved regarding most of the Find N6's specifications.
They've only shared that it will feature a 200-megapixel camera, support for a stylus, and IP56, IP58, and IP59 ratings for dust and water resistance—falling short of the Honor Magic V6's IP69 rating and the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold's IP68.
Its slim design is comparable to last year's Find N5 and the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7. Plus, it will be available in a similarly silvery hue as my test model, as well as a familiar iPhone-like orange.
