Nutritionist reveals five 'non-negotiable' foods for a healthier life

Maintaining optimal health in an increasingly hectic world often requires a return to fundamental dietary principles. Nutritionist Deepshikha Jain, a specialist in global public health nutrition, has identified five "non-negotiable" food items that can significantly enhance physical well-being with minimal effort.

In a briefing shared on Tuesday, Jain emphasised that while global health issues are rising due to work pressures, small, impactful steps in the kitchen remain the most effective form of preventative medicine.

The expert’s recommended daily additions include:

  • Kimchi: A single tablespoon provides probiotics like Lactobacillus, which support the immune system and reduce inflammation.
  • Ghee or coconut oil: Consuming one tablespoon on an empty stomach is advised to "improve your gut lining, make it much stronger, reducing inflammation and actually improving your gut health."
  • Chia seeds: Rich in omega-3 fatty acids and fibre, these seeds aid digestion and support heart health when consumed as a snack or before sleep.
  • Greek yoghurt: At least 100 grams daily is suggested to provide lean protein and probiotics, boosting metabolism and bone density.
  • Pistachios: A handful before bed offers magnesium, which is essential for stabilising blood sugar and improving sleep quality.

Jain noted that these items should remain regular fixtures in a diet regardless of mood or convenience due to their dense nutritional profiles.

By incorporating these staples, individuals can protect their metabolic health and foster a resilient digestive system, proving that the old adage "health is wealth" remains more relevant than ever in the modern age.
