A 70-year-old regular customer has accidentally driven his vehicle through the storefront of Little Sakana, a popular San Diego sushi restaurant.

The incident, which occurred just after 5:15pm on Sunday, resulted in only minor injuries despite the dramatic nature of the collision.

Footage from the scene captured the car accelerating into the entrance, knocking over a woman standing outside and causing a diner within to fall from their chair.

San Diego Police Department Officer Colin Steinbroner confirmed that emergency services treated several individuals at the scene for cuts caused by shattered glass.

“There were two to three people listed as having minor injuries and, according to the incident notes, were bleeding due to falling glass,” he stated, noting that most declined hospital transport.

Restaurant manager Kaylani Cayabyab described the driver as a “very friendly” daily visitor known for his consistent order of steamed rice.

Reflecting on the cause, she suggested a mechanical error or lapse in control: “I think his foot just slipped and then he ended up crashing into the front. He missed the brake and just really gassed it,” she said.

Fortunately, a local power outage had reduced the usual weekend crowds, potentially preventing a far more serious outcome. “So without the power outage, things could’ve gone a lot differently,” Cayabyab remarked.

Demonstrating a remarkable spirit of forgiveness, she expressed hope for the regular’s return: “Hopefully if we do see him, if he does manage to come back, I’d love to offer him his rice and sauce.”
