A New York man has been arrested and charged in connection with the death of his wife after her dismembered remains were discovered in a wildlife refuge.

Rupchand Simboo, 75, was taken into custody on Wednesday, March 11, at approximately 10:25 a.m., according to a spokesperson for the New York Police Department.

Simboo faces charges of murder, obstructing governmental administration, and two counts of tampering with physical evidence.

The victim, 34-year-old Salisha Ali, had been missing since July 13, 2025, when she last spoke with family over a FaceTime call.

Authorities first recovered human remains on September 22, 2025, when sanitation workers discovered what appeared to be a body in a garbage bag.

Police later confirmed a 911 call reporting the remains that day. Ali’s death was officially ruled a homicide on January 31, 2026.

On March 5, additional human remains were found in the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge after staff noticed a foul odor during a roadside cleanup.

NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny told reporters that the remains included unique and identifiable tattoos that were still visible.

Kenny added that forensic examination indicates Ali was likely killed using straight-edge instruments, such as a knife, with some form of saw used to cut through bone. The exact cause of death has not yet been determined.

Ali, originally from Trinidad, met Simboo in 2023. They married in 2024, and Ali moved into his New York home.

When she went missing in July, Simboo reportedly contacted authorities to report her disappearance.

The investigation is ongoing. It is not yet known if Simboo has retained legal counsel.
