Lucy Liu teases what fans can expect from 'The Devil Wears Prada 2'

Lucy Liu has offered fans a sneak peek of what’s to come in the highly anticipated sequel to the 2006 hit, The Devil Wears Prada.

Speaking to People at the TIME Women of the Year Gala on March 10, Liu, 56, was asked to describe the film in one word. “Impossible,” she laughed. “Well, I would say it’s going to be everything that everyone wants it to be.”

The Kill Bill star joins original cast members Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Stanley Tucci, and Emily Blunt, reprising her role in a story that picks up years after the events of the first film.

“I had a great time and it was really fun, and it’s always nice to be part of something that people are excited about and that is connected to fashion,” Liu said at a previous event. “Fashion can be so many things — it can be political, and it can be whimsical. That, to me, is what’s fun about a movie like that, that’s more classic than you would think.”

The sequel follows Miranda Priestly (Streep) as she navigates her career amid the decline of traditional magazine publishing, facing off against Emily Blunt’s character, now a high-powered executive with advertising influence Priestly desperately needs. 

Andy Sachs (Hathaway) returns as the former assistant turned journalist, though her original love interest, played by Adrian Grenier, will not appear in the sequel.

Fans can also expect appearances from familiar faces Tracie Thoms (Lily) and Tibor Feldman (Irv Ravitz), as well as new additions including Justin Theroux, B.J. Novak, Pauline Chalamet, Kenneth Branagh, Patrick Brammall, Caleb Hearon, and Broadway stars Helen J. Shen and Conrad Ricamora.

Theroux previously shared his excitement about working alongside Streep again. “It goes without saying she’s a professional, but after a few minutes of nerves, you immediately realize, ‘Oh, she’s just a really quality actress that I’m getting to work with,’” he told People.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 hits theaters on May 1, 2026.
