A gunman is dead, and two people have been hospitalized after a shooting at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, on Thursday morning, officials said.

The incident unfolded shortly before 11 a.m. on March 12, prompting a rapid response from campus officials and local law enforcement.

University officials issued an emergency alert advising students and staff to follow “run, hide, fight” safety protocols as police responded to what authorities described as an active threat.

Norfolk Police confirmed they were on scene around 11:11 a.m., posting on social media that officers were responding to an “active incident” on the university’s campus.

The shooting occurred inside Constant Hall, a major building that houses the university’s business school.

According to a statement from the university, the suspected gunman was “neutralized” by approximately 11:30 a.m.

Authorities have not yet released details about the suspect’s identity or how the individual died.

Two people were injured during the shooting and transported to a hospital. Officials have not disclosed the severity of their injuries.

Investigation Ongoing

It remains unclear whether the injured individuals or the shooter were students, faculty members, or staff.

In the aftermath of the incident, the university canceled classes for the rest of the day while authorities continued their investigation.
