Trisha Yearwood is highlighting women's contributions to country music.

The award-winning artist, at 61 years old, is on tour promoting her newest album The Mirror.

Released in sync with Women's History Month, the video showcases Yearwood, Satcher, and Tatum playing guitars and alternating vocals on "Country Music HerStory," paying tribute to women in country music and mentioning Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris, Linda Ronstadt, Loretta Lynn, Patsy Cline, Tammy Wynette, and Tanya Tucker in its lyrics.

"Leslie, Makayla, and I were discussing the idea of writing a song about the women who have paved the way and continue to do so, aiming for a rocking Emmylou vibe, and the lyrics just flowed naturally," Yearwood shares with PEOPLE via email.

This song pays homage to the trailblazing women in the genre who came before Yearwood's rise in the '90s. "What’s remarkable is, besides Patsy Cline, I've had the chance to meet and get to know everyone else mentioned [in the song] and call them friends," she reveals.

"The influence of their music has been a comforting hand on my shoulder in times of sadness, through songs that resonated with me," Yearwood adds, "and these incredible women laid the groundwork for my dear friends and inspirations like Reba [McEntire] and Wynonna [Judd]."

In her current career phase, Yearwood is also dedicated to encouraging the next wave of female country artists.

"My biggest advice is to take what these artists can teach you, whether it's mastering a note or choosing the type of songs you want to perform. But remember, every artist, every woman, is distinct," she advises.

The artist known for "She's in Love with the Boy" continues, "Embrace being yourself, even if you've never seen anyone else do it quite like you...especially if you've never seen anyone do it the way you're doing it!"

Yearwood is currently performing on The Mirror Tour: An Acoustic Evening of Stories and Songs featuring Satcher and Tatum.
