Zara Larsson addresses rumours of replacing Camila Cabello after Fifth Harmony exit
Zara Larsson is thriving as a solo artist with her 'Lush Life'
Zara Larsson lives the “Lush Life” as a solo performer, though there was a point when she was rumoured to have been approached about joining Fifth Harmony to take Camila Cabello's place.
In a recent interview, the Swedish singer and songwriter clarified that she was never asked to be part of the now-dissolved group, stating she wouldn’t join a girl group.
“Oh, no. I’m not about group work,” she mentioned during an interview in the Spotify Live Room.
Larsson continued, “I would never be part of a group.”
She did express, “I’m a huge fan of girl groups,” adding, “I love seeing them. Plus, I feel that girl groups are making a huge comeback.”
Zara mentioned that if she had ever been in a girl group, she would want to be “front center,” similar to Beyoncé.
The “Ruin My Life” artist joined Fifth Harmony on tour in 2014, opening for Cher Lloyd’s “I Wish Tour.”
“I truly enjoy a good girl group,” she stated. “But I wouldn’t be happy if I wasn’t always singing lead.”
Despite rumours about her taking over Cabello's position, she looks back on touring with them fondly, saying, “I genuinely loved being part of that tour. Those are memories I’ll cherish forever. That was an amazing time.”
Formed during the second season of The X Factor USA in 2012, Fifth Harmony consisted of Cabello, Ally Brooke, Dinah Jane, Lauren Jauregui, and Normani Kordei.
Cabello departed in 2016 to pursue a solo career. The group continued as a quartet before announcing an indefinite hiatus in 2018.
Surprisingly, the group (sans Cabello) reunited in 2025 for a spontaneous performance at a Jonas Brothers concert in Dallas, Texas.
