Rosamund Pike has opened up about the end of her engagement to director Joe Wright, describing the breakup as a deeply personal disappointment rather than the scandalous affair many assumed.

The Oscar-nominated actress, 47, met Wright, 53, while filming 2005’s Pride and Prejudice.

The couple dated for several years and became engaged, but they parted ways in 2008.

Speaking on the podcast How to Fail with Elizabeth Day, Pike called her “failure to get married” one of her notable personal setbacks.

“We were very, very in love… very wild, and then it all fell apart,” Pike recalled. “When it falls apart, everybody thinks the worst… It is devastating, but not in the ways people imagine.”

Addressing rumors about canceled wedding invitations, Pike clarified, “We’d asked people to save the date.

We hadn’t sent out invitations, and we’d had a lovely plan of a wedding in Italy.”

She added that retreating to her parents’ home after the breakup felt like “a big adult failure” but also offered a newfound perspective on freedom and life’s possibilities.

Pike has been with her long-term partner, businessman Robie Uniacke, since 2009. The couple shares two sons, Solo, 14, and Atom, 12.

Reflecting on her journey, Pike said, “There are so many other ways that love can look… here I am, not married, but with a family and a happy long-term partnership.”

Her comments underscore how Pike has redefined personal fulfillment beyond traditional milestones like marriage, embracing family and partnership on her own terms.
