Ed Sheeran confirms Cherry Seaborn fully recovered after tumor removal
The singer recalls the terrifying moment his wife called with her diagnosis while six months pregnant
Ed Sheeran has opened up about the frightening moment his wife, Cherry Seaborn, was diagnosed with cancer and shared how she’s doing today.
Speaking on the Friends Keep Secrets podcast on March 10, the singer recalled February 2022 as one of the worst weeks of his life.
At the time, Seaborn, 33, was six months pregnant with their daughter Jupiter when she discovered she had a cancerous tumor. “Cherry rung me up and said she had cancer,” Sheeran, 35, said.
Doctors advised that surgery could not be performed until after Jupiter’s birth, forcing the couple to navigate the pregnancy amid immense uncertainty.
“It was f---ing scary,” he admitted, reflecting on the stress of balancing Seaborn’s health with the birth of their second child.
Sheeran also faced personal losses that week, including the deaths of close friend and music entrepreneur Jamal Edwards and cricket legend Shane Warne, as well as a high-profile copyright infringement lawsuit over his 2017 hit Shape of You.
“Being in the courtroom… it didn’t really matter. Because of all those heavy life things, it made the outcome so small,” he said.
Today, Sheeran confirmed that Seaborn has fully recovered following surgery. “She’s fine, she had the operation, and thankfully—touch wood—totally fine,” he said.
The singer previously revealed the diagnosis in his 2023 Disney+ documentary Ed Sheeran: The Sum of It All, describing the moment as “horrible” and crediting songwriting as a way to process the fear and uncertainty.
“Sheeran wrote seven songs in four hours after learning the news,” Seaborn said in the documentary, noting how music helped both of them cope during the crisis.
