Spotify has launched a pioneering customisation feature in New Zealand, allowing Premium subscribers to directly manage and refine their Taste Profile.

This update marks a significant shift in how the platform handles personalisation, moving beyond passive observation to active user collaboration.

By accessing the new Taste Profile menu via their profile icon, beta testers can now view identified trends in their listening habits and manually adjust the algorithmic recommendations that shape their daily discovery.

The interface identifies specific evolving interests, such as a burgeoning exploration of '90s alternative rock, providing users with a clearer understanding of their digital musical identity.

At the heart of this update is a dedicated "Tell us more" feature, which allows for precise instructional feedback. Users can request specific shifts in their recommendations, such as “I would like to listen to more hip hop” or “I’m training for a marathon and want more high-energy tracks.”

This manual override is designed to ensure that Spotify’s suggestions align more accurately with a user’s current lifestyle and preferences.

In addition to algorithmic improvements, the company is enhancing its podcast interface by introducing specialised filters to the Following Feed.

These updates allow listeners to categorise content by unplayed episodes, those currently in progress, or exclusively video podcasts.

This dual approach of refining both automated discovery and manual navigation aims to provide a more streamlined and intuitive experience.

By empowering users to tell the algorithm to "ease up" on certain artists, Spotify is seeking to eliminate the frustration of repetitive or unwanted recommendations.
