Why Sheriff Nanos warns the Guthrie kidnapper 'could strike again'
Investigators believe they have finally unlocked why Nancy Guthrie was taken
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos has revealed that investigators believe they have identified the primary motive behind the kidnapping of Nancy Guthrie, who has been missing for 41 days after her disappearance.
Although the Sheriff is withholding specific details to maintain the integrity of the operation, he expressed a strong conviction that Mrs Guthrie was specifically targeted.
A nationwide search has yielded significant clues, including DNA evidence and ransom notes, yet the perpetrator’s identity remains unknown.
The visual evidence currently available to the public is limited to a single doorbell camera image depicting a masked individual.
Sheriff Nanos issued a stark warning to the Catalina Foothills community, suggesting the suspect poses a continued threat to the public.
During an interview with NBC on Thursday, Nanos stated: “Don’t think for a minute that because it happened to the Guthrie family, you’re safe.”
The investigation has seen several individuals detained and subsequently cleared, including a deliveryman and a California resident charged with issuing fraudulent ransom demands.
In a poignant response to the crisis, the victim’s daughter, Savannah Guthrie, has utilised social media to appeal directly to the captor.
She has offered a $1 million reward for information leading to her mother’s return, while simultaneously expressing grave fears regarding her mother's well-being.
As the search enters its second month, authorities remain focused on the forensic evidence gathered, urging residents to remain vigilant despite the targeted nature of the initial crime.
