Sydney Sweeney admits she once tried to hide her body before 'Euphoria'
The 'Anyone But You' star reflects on her teenage insecurities and how her role as Cassie helped her grow
Sydney Sweeney has opened up about her long journey toward body confidence, revealing that starring in the hit HBO series Euphoria helped her finally feel comfortable in her own skin.
The 28-year-old actress admitted she struggled with insecurity about her body while growing up, particularly after developing early.
Speaking to Us Weekly, Sweeney said she spent much of her teenage years trying to hide her figure rather than embrace it.
“I grew up with boobs. I was wearing a 32DD in sixth grade, and I never felt confident,” she said. “I never had anything I felt good in, and I just wanted to hide.”
Her perspective began to change when she was cast as Cassie Howard in Euphoria.
According to Sweeney, portraying the emotionally complex character helped her see confidence as something powerful rather than something to shy away from.
“It wasn’t until I played Cassie in Euphoria that I started realizing it’s actually powerful to be confident,” she explained.
“Our bodies are incredible. We should embrace them and feel really good in our skin.”
Sweeney’s personal experience also inspired a business venture. After years of struggling to find supportive, comfortable lingerie for her curvy frame, she launched her own lingerie brand, Syrn.
The actress said frustration with poorly fitting bras and uncomfortable straps motivated her to design options that better serve women with similar body types.
The actress, who stars in the upcoming thriller The Housemaid, has previously revealed she once considered breast reduction surgery as a teenager.
In a 2023 interview with Glamour magazine, Sweeney said she is now grateful she didn’t go through with it.
“My mom told me, ‘Don’t do it. You’ll regret it in college,’” she recalled. “And I’m so glad I didn’t. I like them. They’re my best friends.”
Sweeney added that self-confidence is key to empowerment, encouraging young women to embrace their bodies and feel proud of who they are.
