Conan O’Brien prepares to host Oscars amid heightened security alerts
Hollywood organiser assures attendees the ceremony will remain safe despite heightened alerts
Conan O’Brien is preparing to host the 98th Academy Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday, March 15, amid heightened security following intelligence warnings suggesting a potential drone threat from Iran targeting the U.S. West Coast.
The ceremony, set to take place at the Dolby Theatre, Hollywood, will welcome top nominees including Jessie Buckley and Timothée Chalamet.
According to Variety, the FBI recently alerted California law enforcement about the possibility of a retaliatory drone attack, prompting a wave of caution among organizers and attendees.
A private security consultant working with several A-list celebrities told RadarOnline.com that anxiety is spreading behind the scenes.
“There is genuine unease because everyone understands the Oscars is one of the most visible events in the world,” the source said. “Clients are asking detailed questions about evacuation routes, airspace monitoring, and how quickly the venue could be locked down if something appeared in the sky. No one is saying the threat is certain, but the alert has made people jittery.”
Authorities across California have increased protective measures around major gatherings in response to rising tensions involving Iran, the U.S., and Israel.
At the Oscars venue, security protocols reportedly include reinforced perimeters, increased patrols, specialist response units, and enhanced surveillance and intelligence sharing.
Officials stress that no confirmed plot is targeting the event, but vigilance is at an all-time high.
Raj Kapoor, executive producer of the Oscars, acknowledged the tense backdrop while reassuring the public about safety measures.
“We have one of the best teams in the business in all aspects, including security,” Kapoor told Variety.
“With the support of the FBI and LAPD, we ensure the show runs like clockwork while making everyone—attendees, staff, and fans—feel safe, protected, and welcome.”
