Lisa Rinna reveals which injectable left her cheeks swollen and criticized
'The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills' star described the filler as traumatizing in her new memoir
Lisa Rinna revealed the cosmetic treatment she now regrets, calling the experience “traumatizing” after it caused unexpected swelling and public criticism.
In her new memoir, You Better Believe I'm Gonna Talk About It, the 62-year-old Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum shared the story of her SKINVIVE injections, which she received in April 2024.
The skin injectable, described by the FDA as a gel implant or dermal filler designed to add facial definition or reduce wrinkles, left Rinna with cheeks she described as “like a squirrel gathering nuts.”
Rinna explained that the result was compounded by previously administered Botox in her jaw to treat TMJ, creating an unflattering combination.
“Well, the combination of the Botox making my jawline atrophy, and SKINVIVE giving me volume, made me look freakish,” she wrote.
The actress recalled attending the 2024 Fashion Trust Awards in Beverly Hills, where photographers captured the results.
“Everybody put my picture up because my face did look different,” Rinna said. Influencers quickly created content comparing her before-and-after appearance. “Everyone was so mean about it. I was all over TikTok and all over every f---ing doctor's site.”
Rinna acted quickly to reverse the SKINVIVE treatment, allowing her face to return to normal within days.
Reflecting on the ordeal, she said, “Oh my God. It was really humiliating because I knew that it looked terrible. Fortunately, I'm an old battle axe at this point and I can take it.”
A month after the incident, she told People: “Some things work out, and some things don't.
There’s so much available now, lasers, treatments, everything. It’s wonderful to see what works for you, and if it doesn’t, it doesn’t.”
Rinna added a candid reminder about beauty standards: “Once you get older and there’s anti-aging things out there, great. Hallelujah! But it’s happening at such a young age now, the pressure to be perfect. There is no such thing as perfection. There just isn’t. And if you’re chasing that, you’ll always be unhappy.”
