Inside Delroy Lindo’s 36-year marriage to artist wife Nashormeh N.R. Lindo
Delroy Lindo credits his wife, Nashormeh’s support for helping him navigate life and Hollywood’s ups and downs
Delroy Lindo has had a steadfast partner in his personal and professional life for over three decades.
The acclaimed actor has been married to Nashormeh N. R. Lindo since 1990, and together they share a son, Damiri, born in 2001.
During a February 2026 appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show, Delroy reflected on the importance of his wife’s support.
“When you have that kind of support, it’s easier to pick yourself up and face another day, face another situation. It’s important,” he said. Her encouragement was especially meaningful when he earned a long-awaited Oscar nomination for his performance in Sinners.
Nashormeh is a distinguished visual artist and educator. A Philadelphia native, she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Pennsylvania State University in 1976 and later a master’s in education from Bank Street College of Education.
She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. at Penn State. Her work spans watercolor painting, photography, and collage, with a particular focus on family memories and cultural documentation.
“Incorporating these images into my own work helps to bring these people alive,” she explained in her artist statement.
In addition to her art, Nashormeh has a notable career in arts education. She began teaching in Philadelphia public schools, received a fellowship in arts management from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, and served seven years on the California Arts Council.
She also created a lecture series on the Harlem Renaissance for the San Francisco Museum of Modern Arts and taught African American Art History at the City College of San Francisco.
Reflecting on their marriage, Delroy joked about the key to its longevity: “The secret to the longevity of my marriage is because I’m so easy to get along with. Y’all believe that, right?” He quickly became serious, acknowledging how her support has been pivotal. “It means everything. The ups and downs of the career, the ups and downs of life…to have that steady support is sometimes the difference between being able to get through certain situations,” he said.
The couple’s son, Damiri, also holds a special place in Delroy’s heart. When he called his father with the news of the Oscar nomination, Delroy said, “It felt so right, cosmically, that it came from my son…It meant the world.”
Delroy and Nashormeh’s enduring partnership exemplifies the balance of shared creativity, family, and mutual support that has carried them through decades in both Hollywood and the art world.
