Florida house fire displaces 4 people, 3 pets after child plays with matches

A youngster playing with matches triggered a blaze in a Florida residence.

Hernando County Fire Rescue arrived at the scene of the fire at the 7400 block of Madrid Rd in Weeki Wachee, Florida, at 9am local time on Saturday (March 14).

Their team reported that the blaze originated in the bedroom, as mentioned in a Instagram post on their official page.

The images shared in the post reveal that the bedroom suffered the most fire damage. The floor was covered with ash, and a hole had been burned through the ceiling.

The firefighters also noticed smoke coming from the house upon their arrival, although they managed to extinguish the fire swiftly.​

Although four people and three pets evaded the fire unharmed, they have been displaced due to the incident.

Those affected are currently being supported by the American Red Cross.

“HCFR advises families to store matches, lighters, and other fire-starting implements away from children and to educate them on fire safety. 

Additionally, ensure your home is equipped with functioning smoke alarms,” the Hernando County Fire Rescue team stated.
