Conan O’Brien honored Martin Short as he concluded his role as host of the 98th Academy Awards.

“It has truly been an honor and a pleasure,” he shared about his experience as host, this being his second time. “We adore you, Marty Short. Good night.”

O’Brien’s tribute comes shortly after the announcement of the tragic passing of Short’s daughter, Katherine Elizabeth Short, who was found at her residence in Los Angeles, having died by suicide at the age of 42.

Recently mourning the loss of his SCTV cohort Catherine O’Hara as well, Short has taken a break from his comedy tour with Steve Martin following the sad news. It appears he will resume in April, according to dates posted on Martin’s site.

After his daughter’s passing, Short and his family released a statement to People expressing, “It is with deep sorrow that we confirm the death of Katherine Hartley Short. The Short family is heartbroken by this loss and requests privacy at this time. Katherine was cherished by everyone and will always be remembered for the brightness and happiness she brought to the world.”

O’Brien, a longtime friend of Short’s, has frequently crossed paths with him through his podcast Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend, in the late-night circuit, and in other settings.
