Rebecca Ferguson breaks silence on her limited role in 'Dune: Part Three'
A star of the sci-fi saga reveals the "weird feeling" of her final day on set
Rebecca Ferguson has offered a rare glimpse into her return to the desert planet Arrakis for the highly anticipated Dune: Part Three. Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the Swedish actress confirmed that she has read the script for Denis Villeneuve’s latest instalment, which adapts Frank Herbert’s 1969 novel Dune Messiah.
Ferguson, who portrays the formidable Lady Jessica, revealed that her involvement in the trilogy's conclusion is significantly reduced compared to the previous two films.
The actress admitted to experiencing a sense of "fear of missing out" during her brief time on set. She explained the transition, noting that her primary journey concluded with the first two chapters.
"The script is great, I’ve read it. I think it’s gonna be fantastic. But my journey was No. 1 and 2. I don’t even think she [my character] was supposed to be in 3. And then Denis was like, ‘I need to have one scene,’ and I get one scene," Ferguson remarked.
Despite her limited screen time, she praised Villeneuve's directorial mastery and the collaborative environment he fosters.
"He’s just intelligent, creative; he’s a master, and he works with people that he makes better, and they make him better. It’s a symbiosis. And they are few and far between," she said.
Scheduled for release on 18 December, the film features an ensemble cast including Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, and Robert Pattinson.
Villeneuve has described the feature as the "epic conclusion" to a saga that has redefined modern science-fiction cinema.
