Jordin Sparks has offered clarification regarding the prizes awarded to American Idol champions, following recent comments from fellow winner Kelly Clarkson.

The discussion originated during the 11 March episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show, where host Clarkson conversed with The Traitors season 4 victors, Daniel Radcliffe and Rob Rausch.

After Rausch mentioned he had yet to receive his prize money, Clarkson revealed her own historic grievances regarding the rewards promised during the inaugural season in 2002.

Clarkson claimed that the purported million-dollar prize was actually an "investment" rather than a cash payment. She further alleged that she never received the car promised for her victory.

"I literally was on [American Idol], and they were like, ‘Oh, you win a million dollars’ or whatever. No, you didn’t. It was, like, a million dollars worth of investment in you," she shared during the broadcast.

However, appearing on the Monday episode of TODAY with Jenna & Shenielle, season 6 winner Jordin Sparks provided a different perspective.

When questioned by substitute co-host Justin Sylvester about the claims of missing prizes, Sparks confirmed her own experience was positive, stating, “I got my car.”

Sparks was quick to defend the production whilst acknowledging the difficulties of early television formats. “Look, I wasn’t a part of Season 1. But the first season of anything is a little crazy,” she remarked.

Expressing a sense of camaraderie, she concluded by suggesting the organisers should rectify the oversight for the original winner: “I hope they give her one now. Send her a Ford."
