Brian Austin Green has shared the story of his first—and only—firing from a television show, recalling how a sitcom mishap nearly derailed his early career.

The 52-year-old actor revealed on Pod Meets World that he was let go from the American TV sitcom My Two Dads because he “didn’t completely understand the timing” of comedy.

“I was on one episode of My Two Dads, and it was the only time that I was ever fired,” Brian recalled. “We had been rehearsing, and then we did a run-through. I had a scene sitting at a table with Staci Keanan and someone else, and I was really new to sitcoms. I just didn’t completely understand the timing of it, and… they were like, ‘We’re going to have to recast.’”

At the time, the young actor admits he worried about his paycheck more than anything else.

“I was so young, I was like, ‘OK, I still get paid for this day, right?’ That’s all I really cared about at that point,” he said.

Shortly afterward, Brian landed the role of David Silver on Beverly Hills, 90210 in 1990—a part that would change his life.

Speaking to The Television Academy, he recalled how the show’s early struggles unexpectedly turned into massive success.

“Fox only kept the show on the air after an underwhelming first season because they didn’t have anything else to put on in its place at that time,” he said.

“So they picked us up for the back nine. But Aaron Spelling had this truly genius idea to do summer episodes. While other shows went into reruns, ours was still airing new episodes. Overnight, the show went from nobody watching to everybody watching.”

Brian remembers the moment he realized the show’s impact: “It was during that first summer in 1991.

"I was at a gas station, and there was a carload of young girls whose parents were filling up the car. The girls were like, ‘Oh my God, are you on that show?’ And I was thinking, ‘Holy s***, you’ve seen the show?!’”
