The upcoming A24-produced feature, The Drama, starring Zendaya and Robert Pattinson, has ignited significant debate following reports of a harrowing narrative shift.

Although initial promotion suggested a lighthearted wedding-themed production, a report by TMZ indicates the film takes a much darker turn.

The story follows a couple preparing for their nuptials, but the atmosphere sours a week before the ceremony during a social game in which guests share the worst things they have done.

During this sequence, Zendaya’s character reportedly shocks her companions with a major confession. Insiders who claim to have seen the movie told the outlet that Zendaya's character reveals that, as a teenager, she once planned a school shooting but backed out at the last moment.

This unexpected twist left the viewers unsettled, the publisher reported, particularly as the film had been marketed as a feel-good romantic movie.

A portion of the audience has raised concerns that the storyline is insensitive and an attempt to humanise school shooters. Critics argue that showing the film in countries affected by such tragedies is inconsiderate.

Despite the controversy, some early viewers have praised the film, calling it “brilliant” and appreciating its bold twist.

The production is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on 3 April, and it remains to be seen how the broader public will react to such a sensitive subject matter.
