Suspected assassin Tyler Robinson claimed opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk
Tyler Robinson faces aggravated murder charges following the September shooting of Charlie Kirk
Newly unsealed court documents have revealed chilling details regarding the suspected assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
According to search warrant affidavits obtained by ABC News on Friday, 27-year-old Tyler Robinson allegedly left a handwritten confession for his partner before carrying out the fatal shooting.
Robinson is accused of killing the Turning Point USA founder on 10 September 2025, while Kirk was addressing students at Utah Valley University in Orem.
The documents indicate that Robinson sent a text message instructing his partner to look under his computer keyboard, where a letter detailed his "mission."
"I had the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk, and I took it," the letter reportedly stated. Robinson allegedly expressed remorse to his partner, writing: "I am likely dead, or facing a lengthy prison sentence... I wish we could have lived in a world where this did not feel necessary."
The unsealed records also shed light on the subsequent manhunt, revealing that Robinson texted his partner about his fear of a public trial before surrendering to authorities on the evening of 11 September.
He currently faces charges of aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm, and witness tampering.
The revelation of the letter comes as legal teams prepare for a high-stakes court appearance on 17 April. During this hearing, the prosecution and defence are expected to argue over the presence of cameras in the courtroom for the remainder of the proceedings.
Robinson’s defence team previously made headlines by claiming that the ballistic evidence does not match the rifle found in the suspect's possession.
However, prosecutors maintain that the newly released digital and physical evidence, including the confession letter, provides a clear link between the defendant and the targeted attack on the high-profile political figure.
