Summers present unique challenges for skincare, as the scorching tropical heat leads to increased sweat, oily secretions, and tanning.

Dr Surbhi Balani, a board-certified dermatologist based in Ahmedabad, recently shared a comprehensive survival guide to mitigate these effects.

In an Instagram post shared on Sunday, she explained that while sunscreen is essential, it is often insufficient on its own.

To keep skin fresh and clear, she suggested making small, intentional swaps in daily routines, emphasising that consistency remains the key to achieving visible results.

Identifying the symptoms

The hot weather often results in clogged pores and skin redness. To address these common seasonal issues, the dermatologist recommended several targeted interventions:

  • Use a salicylic acid cleanser in the shower to prevent body acne.
  • Apply niacinamide in the morning to control oil and reduce redness.
  • Utilise anti-dandruff shampoo as a body wash to target fungal acne.
  • Choose blotting paper over frequent washing to protect natural skin oils.
  • Apply ceramide lotion after swimming to repair the barrier from chlorine damage.
  • Use sunscreen sprays or mists for easy reapplication throughout the day.
  • Incorporate benzoyl peroxide washes to eliminate odour-causing bacteria.
  • Wear UPF clothing, such as lightweight sleeves, for physical sun protection.

Dr Balani noted that "anti-dandruff formulas can help target the root cause and keep your skin clear," especially for those suffering from back acne.

Additionally, she warned that washing the face too often to cool off can strip the skin of its natural protection.

By adopting these expert-led hacks, individuals can maintain a healthy, glowing complexion despite the unforgiving summer sun and high humidity levels.
