Eating healthy is often a challenge, particularly when snacks introduce empty calories into a balanced diet.

Dr Rupy Aujla, a London-based doctor specialising in General Practice, recently addressed this issue by sharing a nutritious alternative.

In an Instagram post shared on Saturday, he introduced his recipe for no-bake pistachio and cacao energy balls.

These snacks are designed to provide a sustained pick-me-up for those on the go or finishing a gym session. According to the physician, each serving offers five grams of protein and three grams of fibre.

Ingredients for pistachio and cacao energy balls

The recipe is remarkably simple, relying on six core ingredients to provide natural energy without added sugars. The following components are required for twelve servings:

  • 150g pistachios, shelled
  • 150g medjool dates, roughly chopped
  • 2 tbsp cacao powder (raw)
  • 2 tbsp shelled hemp seeds
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil, melted
  • 3 tbsp tahini
  • 4 tbsp ground pistachios (for optional rolling)

Method of preparation

Dr Rupy Aujla maintained that these balls are easy to batch make and store in the fridge or freezer. To prepare them at home, follow these detailed steps:

  • Cover the chopped dates with boiling water, soak for 10 minutes, then drain.
  • Add all ingredients to a food processor and blitz until a dough forms.
  • Spread ground pistachios on a plate in an even layer.
  • Roll tablespoons of dough into 12 individual balls.
  • Coat each ball in the ground pistachios and place in an airtight container.
  • Refrigerate for one hour to set before consuming.

These energy balls remain fresh in the fridge for five days or can be frozen for up to three months. By utilising the natural sweetness of dates, individuals can manage their cravings while supporting their metabolic health.
