A California man is in custody after viral doorbell footage captured a violent confrontation where he identified himself as a fictional wizard.

Jason Nichols, 30, was filmed on 7 April at a residence on Burbank Court, Fairfield, wearing a trench coat and flip-flops.

During the recorded tirade, he screamed at the homeowner, "Open the f---ing door or I will f---ing kill you!" while claiming to be "Harry Dresden," a detective from a fantasy book series.

When he failed to kick down the front door, the Fairfield Police Department confirmed Nichols entered through a sliding glass door.

The homeowner, who had been monitoring the situation remotely via security cameras, returned to find his wife and child in danger.

He confronted Nichols with a shovel, leading to a physical altercation that left both men with head injuries. Inside the home, Nichols was heard shouting, "Where the f— is she?" and "You filthy liar," under the false belief a child was trapped inside.

The homeowner attempted to de-escalate the situation, asking, "Are you military?" and "Can you please step outside?" shortly before officers arrived to arrest Nichols.

Following his medical treatment, Nichols was booked on charges including assault with a deadly weapon and first-degree burglary.

Authorities later added a charge of annoying or molesting a child under 18 related to a separate incident on 5 April.

This investigation remains active as Nichols prepares for court appearances on 13 and 14 April, with no further information being released due to the sensitive nature of the minor's involvement.
