FBI probes 'potentially crucial' DNA found at Nancy Guthrie's Arizona residence: Report
The FBI is using advanced techniques to analyse DNA in hopes of identifying Guthrie's abductor
The FBI is reportedly examining important DNA evidence gathered from Nancy Guthrie’s residence in Tucson, Arizona.
A private laboratory in Florida, which collaborates with the Pima County Sheriff’s Department on the investigation, recently forwarded the DNA sample to the FBI, ABC News reported Thursday.
The FBI is using advanced techniques to analyse the DNA in hopes of identifying Guthrie's abductor.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department noted earlier that the DNA found at Guthrie’s home contained genetic material from multiple individuals.
It may take investigators up to six months to complete the DNA analysis.
Nancy — the mother of “Today” anchor Savanah Guthrie — has been missing since February 1.
In an interview on the “Today” show last month, Savannah shared disturbing details about her mother’s abduction, noting that her siblings, Camron and Annie, immediately sensed something was amiss upon seeing the condition of Nancy’s residence.
“The doors were left open, there was blood on the front step and the Ring camera had been pulled off,” she recounted to Hoda Kotb. “We knew something was seriously wrong.”
Savannah emotionally described how Nancy was snatched “during the night in her pajamas, without shoes or her medication.”
“That’s absolutely horrifying,” she remarked about the armed and masked figure captured on video breaking into Nancy’s residence. “It’s terrifying to imagine that’s who was looming over her as she slept.”
Savannah returned to the “Today” show on April 6.
Former FBI agent Jason Pack exclusively revealed to Page Six earlier this month that the “walls are closing in” on Nancy’s abductor now that Savannah is back on “Today,” emphasising that her “visibility on a national platform” keeps the public focused on the investigation.
“With each passing day, the pressure escalates. Harboring a secret of this magnitude is taxing... and this pressure mounts every time Savannah Guthrie takes her position at the anchor desk,” Pack commented.
In her conversation on “Today” with Kotb, Savannah discussed her choice to return to the NBC morning show while her mother remains missing.
“Returning is daunting because it’s a space filled with happiness and lightness,” she expressed. “I can't fake being something I'm not, but I also can't walk away because this is my family. I believe it’s part of my purpose now.”
