Tesla expands robotaxi service to Dallas and Houston
Tesla has expanded its robotaxi service to two new cities
Tesla has expanded its robotaxi service to two new cities, announcing a rollout in Dallas and Houston as part of its broader push into autonomous transportation.
The company revealed the update in a brief social media post, stating that “Robotaxi is now rolling out in Dallas & Houston,” alongside a short video showing Tesla vehicles operating without visible drivers or human safety monitors in the front seat.
With the latest expansion, Tesla’s robotaxi service is now active in three cities — all located in Texas.
The company first launched the service in Austin last year and began offering fully driverless rides without safety drivers in January 2026.
However, the rollout comes amid scrutiny over safety. In a February regulatory filing, Tesla disclosed that its Austin-based robotaxi fleet had been involved in 14 crashes since the service launched.
Tesla also operates a more limited ride-hailing service in the San Francisco Bay Area, where human drivers are still required.
It remains unclear how extensive the new deployments in Dallas and Houston currently are.
Crowdsourced tracking data suggests a very small presence so far, with reports indicating just one active robotaxi in each city, compared to dozens already operating in Austin.
The expansion signals Tesla’s continued ambition to scale autonomous mobility, though questions around safety, regulation, and real-world performance persist.
