Windows users will no longer be required to undergo automatic updates during a game or a hectic day.

Microsoft is introducing new updates to Windows Update for those on its Dev and Experimental Windows Insider channels, allowing updates to be deferred for up to 35 days at a time.

Last month, Microsoft shared plans to enhance Windows 11 and tackle frequent user complaints about the software.

A major aspect of these improvements involves reducing the intrusiveness of updates.

In a blog post released on Friday, Microsoft stated users will be able to "extend the pause end date as needed," without any restrictions on resetting to another 35-day delay.

If updates are not paused again at the end of the 35 days, they will proceed automatically.

The updates to Windows Update also bring more descriptive titles for driver updates, now indicating the relevant device class such as display, audio, or battery.

Moreover, Windows 11 will consistently offer options in the power menu to restart or shut down without needing to apply updates.

Users will also have the choice to bypass updates when configuring a new Windows device.

Microsoft is further "streamlining the update experience" by grouping updates to minimise reboots. Updates will "download in the background and then prepare for a coordinated installation and restart."
