Ex-politician Philip Young faces 56 charges after latest guilty pleas

Former U.K. politician Philip Young has pleaded guilty to creating indecent images of children, marking a further development in a widening criminal case that already includes multiple sexual offence convictions involving his former wife.

Young, a former Conservative Party councillor, admitted to making and possessing prohibited and indecent images of children, as well as extreme pornographic material, according to reports from the BBC and The Guardian

The latest guilty pleas relate to offences spanning from 2019 to 2024.

The new admissions come months after Young previously pleaded guilty in January to a series of serious sexual offences, including multiple counts of rape, administering a substance with intent to overpower a victim for sexual activity, and assault by penetration. The charges relate to prolonged abuse of his then-wife, identified as Joanne, Wiltshire Police confirmed.

Following those earlier pleas, Senior Investigating Officer Detective Superintendent Geoff Smith praised the survivor’s courage, saying she had shown “incredible bravery” throughout the investigation and continues to receive specialist support.

With the latest admissions, Young has now pleaded guilty to a total of 56 charges, authorities confirmed.

Police also said five additional men have been charged in connection with the broader case involving Young’s former wife.

One of the accused, Dean Hamilton, has pleaded guilty to rape, while the remaining four have denied the allegations and are awaiting further legal proceedings.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to examine the full extent of the offences linked to the case.
