Koru, Jeff Bezos' yacht, has drawn significant attention from yacht industry experts and celebrity followers since its inaugural launch in 2023.

The vessel has played a pivotal role in the Amazon founder's journey over the last several years — it's where he asked his partner, Lauren Sánchez, to marry him and where they hosted an engagement celebration.

Named after the Maori concept for "loop" or "coil," this 417-foot-long ship proudly stands among the most significant sailing yachts globally, with Bezos investing approximately $500 million.

Yet, even with that price, it probably didn't make a huge impact on Bezos' wealth portfolio.

Bezos had the yacht custom-built by the Dutch company Oceanco. It embarked on its first trip in April 2023, sailing from the Netherlands to Gibraltar.

During its debut summer, Koru traveled throughout Europe, garnering attention for its distinctive design, massive size, and the mermaid figurehead gracing its front, which some believed resembled Sánchez.

The sculpture represents Freyja, a goddess from Norse stories who holds a special place in Bezos’ interests, as Sánchez later clarified.

The yacht also sparked the interest of paparazzi eager for a glimpse of celebrities onboard.

In August 2023, it hosted one of Bezos and Sánchez's pre-wedding parties, attended by guests like Bill Gates, Whitney Wolfe Herd, and Ari Emanuel. By 2024, Katy Perry, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Kim Kardashian were spotted near it.

The yacht held a significant role in the pair's wedding festivities in Venice, Italy, in June 2025. The celebration kicked off with a foam party aboard for Sánchez's son, Evan Whitesell.

Following their marriage, the pair set off on Koru for a honeymoon across the Mediterranean.

Similar to other enormous yachts worldwide, Koru is equipped with top-notch amenities, details of which are mostly undisclosed. Oceanco confirmed its features include three hot tubs and one pool.

"It's truly magnificent," expressed Federico Rossi, operational head of the luxury yacht manufacturer Rossinavi, to Business Insider in 2024.

Yet, the yacht's history isn't without its share of disputes.

The height of Koru's masts nearly necessitated the removal of a historic bridge in the Netherlands. Residents planned to hurl eggs at the yacht if the bridge was dismantled, and after the uproar, Oceanco retracted its request to disassemble the bridge.

Criticism has also emerged over the yacht's use of teak for both decks and interiors. This wood, associated with deforestation, takes significant time to regenerate and often originates from Myanmar, a nation noted for its questionable human rights practices.

In 2024, Oceanco received a fine for breaching the European Timber Regulation by failing to adequately trace the teak used in crafting elements of Koru's furniture and interior spaces.
