Selena Gomez paid emotional tribute to longtime friend and 'Only Murders in the Building' co-star
Selena Gomez paid an emotional tribute to longtime friend and Only Murders in the Building co-star Martin Short while attending the premiere of his upcoming Netflix documentary, Marty, Life Is Short.
The documentary explores Short’s decades-long comedy career as well as the personal tragedies he endured throughout his life.
Following the premiere, Gomez shared a heartfelt message on social media praising the veteran comedian’s resilience, humour, and outlook on life.
“The man who doesn’t have social media is truly outstandingly witty, smart and has given the most wonderful attributes to our world of comedy,” Gomez wrote alongside photos from the event and throwback pictures with Short.
The Emmy-nominated actress described Short as “nothing short of a legend,” adding that his positive attitude deeply moved her while watching the documentary.
“His outlook on life is simply joyful. I cried, laughed and empathised [with] his entire story,” she wrote.
The documentary trailer highlights several painful chapters in Short’s life, including the deaths of his parents, his brother, and his wife, Nancy Dolman.
Most recently, Short reportedly suffered another devastating loss when his eldest daughter, Katherine Hartley Short, died earlier this year at the age of 42.
Despite the hardships, Short’s enduring energy and humour have earned admiration from fellow entertainers including Steve Martin, Tom Hanks, Eugene Levy, and Catherine O'Hara, all of whom appear in the film.
Marty, Life Is Short premieres globally on Netflix on May 12.
