Nvidia and Corning partner to revitalise American technology supply chain
Corning will build three new facilities in Texas and North Carolina for Nvidia
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has described the company's new partnership with Corning as a vital opportunity to rebuild critical technology supply chains within the United States.
Speaking on CNBC's "Mad Money" on Wednesday, Mr Huang stated that the world is currently witnessing "the single largest infrastructure buildout in human history."
He emphasised that artificial intelligence is set to become fundamental infrastructure globally, particularly within the American market.
The announcement follows a significant deal to expand domestic optical connectivity manufacturing. As part of this collaboration, Corning is set to construct three new facilities across Texas and North Carolina, a move expected to create more than 3,000 jobs.
Following the news, Corning shares surged by more than 12 per cent, while Nvidia shares rose by six per cent.
Mr Huang highlighted that the current scale of AI spending provides a unique moment to reinvest in American manufacturing after decades of offshoring to locations such as Taiwan and Vietnam.
The partnership focuses on advanced optical technologies essential for connecting chips within massive AI data centres.
Mr Huang explained that as computing demands increase, traditional copper wires are no longer sufficient, necessitating a massive scaling of optical connectivity.
He noted that this investment wave is benefiting the broader economy, driving high demand for skilled craft experts, electricians, and construction workers.
Ultimately, the collaboration ensures the US possesses the necessary infrastructure to support the next phase of AI development, with silicon photonics playing a central role in this technological future.
