Meta implements round-the-clock mega-layoffs
Certain teams in Meta's Reality Labs had already begun restructuring into smaller groups
As Meta is getting ready to dismiss 10% of its staff on Wednesday, it is attempting to clarify the situation for employees in uncertain job positions.
Janelle Gale, Meta's HR head, shared a memo on Monday within an employee resource group, detailing expectations for Wednesday according to two employees who viewed the note.
Gale explained that layoff notifications, expected to cut approximately 8,000 jobs, will occur in three phases at 4am local time across various regions.
She also mentioned that management roles would be reduced across the organisation to streamline structures.
"We've reached a point where many divisions can work under a flatter organisation with smaller teams or pods that operate swiftly with increased responsibility," she noted.
Gale also indicated that Meta plans to reassign more than 7,000 employees to focus on new initiatives that previously couldn't be prioritised. She informed staff that organisational changes will be announced by company leaders alongside the layoffs.
Certain teams in Meta's Reality Labs had already begun restructuring into smaller groups, as Business Insider earlier reported.
This recent update has affected employee morale at Meta as reported by current staff. One employee informed Business Insider that staff are "in a waiting period" to discover which positions will be cut.
Meta is investing substantial funds in AI competition, and in April, predicted its 2026 capital expenses would range from $125 billion to $145 billion.
Meta's leaders have informed staff that additional job cuts beyond this Wednesday's 10% reduction are still a possibility, as previously reported by Business Insider.
