Pedro Pascal Disney surprise sparks backlash over claims of 'staged' fan moment
Disney’s promotional event for 'The Mandalorian and Grogu' drew criticism online from fans
Pedro Pascal recently surprised fans at Disneyland’s Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge while promoting The Mandalorian and Grogu, but the moment has since sparked backlash online over claims that the “surprise” appearance was staged.
Disney shared footage of Pascal interacting with park guests, captioning the moment, “Pedro Pascal creates the surprise of a lifetime at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at @disneyland.”
While the company did not explicitly describe the encounter as spontaneous, many viewers interpreted it as an unplanned fan surprise.
However, the promotional nature of the event quickly drew criticism on social media, with some fans accusing Disney of manufacturing a “fake surprise” and questioning the authenticity of the encounter.
Others also objected to the presence of invited guests, with claims circulating that influencers were included among those selected.
According to a report by The Hollywood Reporter, the group of attendees included a mix of genuine Star Wars fans, some of whom reportedly had modest social media followings.
The outlet also stated that guests were invited to the park under the impression they would be previewing new additions to the Smugglers Run attraction, rather than attending a celebrity appearance.
Neither Disney nor Pascal has publicly responded to the backlash.
The promotional appearance comes as Pascal continues to build anticipation for The Mandalorian and Grogu, the upcoming Star Wars film directed by Jon Favreau.
The movie is scheduled for theatrical release on May 22, 2026, and continues the story of the widely popular Disney+ series.
Despite the controversy, the film remains one of Disney’s most anticipated releases of the year, with fans closely watching the next chapter in the Star Wars franchise.
