Prince William jokes about the ‘chaos’ caused by family dogs at Kensington home
The Prince of Wales shared the anecdote during a public visit to Nansledan in Cornwall
Prince William has shared a relatable glimpse into life inside the Wales household, revealing that the family’s dogs have a habit of chewing up anything left lying around the house.
The Prince of Wales, 43, opened up about the pets during a visit to Nansledan, Cornwall, on May 21, where he greeted local residents and stopped to interact with a cocker spaniel named Professor Lupin.
While chatting with the dog’s owners, William explained that he and Catherine, Princess of Wales own two cocker spaniels, Orla and Otto, and joked about the chaos they occasionally cause at home.
“Ours chew slippers. Anything left on the floor is gone,” William said while asking the family whether their dog behaved indoors.
The royal couple’s dogs have become increasingly visible in recent family photos and social media moments shared by Kensington Palace.
Orla joined the Wales family in 2020, while Otto — Orla’s son from a 2025 litter — was officially introduced publicly earlier this month in a birthday tribute shared online.
The dogs also appeared in a recent birthday video released for Princess Charlotte, where the young royal was seen cuddling and playing with both pets during family moments outdoors.
Princess Charlotte, 11, is believed to share a particularly close bond with Orla, who previously appeared in several of her birthday portraits.
William’s comments also echoed recent remarks made by Princess Kate about Otto’s energetic behavior.
During a Buckingham Palace garden party earlier this month, she reportedly joked that the young dog had “chewed quite a lot” and explained that the family regularly checks each morning whether Otto has been taken outside.
The Prince and Princess of Wales, who are parents to Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, have long been known for their affection for animals, particularly cocker spaniels bred by Kate’s brother, James Middleton.+
